Deel vs Remote (2026): Pricing, EOR, Payroll and Contractors Compared

Which is better, Deel or Remote?

Deel vs Remote comes down to what you are buying. Deel is cheaper for Employer of Record — $599 per employee per month against Remote's $699 — and lists more EOR countries (130+ against 90+). Remote is cheaper for contractors ($29 against $49), publishes a payroll price where Deel quotes individually, and says it employs only through entities it owns.

For a mixed team of employees and contractors across many countries, start with Deel. For a contractor-heavy team, or a company that wants employment through a provider-owned entity, start with Remote. For one hire in one country, neither headline matters much — the local contract and the total cost decide it.

Where these numbers come from: both providers' pricing pages and product documentation, checked 1 November 2026, plus their G2 listings. We have not run payroll on either platform. Where a figure is the provider's own claim rather than something we verified, we say so.

Prices are USD starting prices published by the providers. Bold marks the lower price. Country counts are provider claims covering different products, so check the specific service and country before you buy.

What each company actually sells

Most Deel vs Remote comparisons go wrong here: both sell four separate services, and most pricing mistakes come from treating them as one product. If you are earlier than this — still deciding what category of tool you need — start with how to choose HR software.

  • Employer of Record (EOR) makes the provider the legal employer in a country where you have no entity.
  • Global Payroll runs payroll for an entity you already own.
  • Contractor Management is software for agreements, invoices and payments.
  • Contractor of Record puts the provider into the contract itself.

Deel reports more than 40,000 customers, over $20 billion in processed payroll and availability in 150+ countries. Those are company figures rather than an audit of its EOR network — its EOR pricing page claims 130+ countries. Deel also sells a US PEO, immigration support under the Deel Mobility name, IT and device management, and recruiting tools.

Remote claims a 100% owned-entity model, EOR in 90+ countries and in-house payroll processing in 70+. It also sells a US PEO and equity administration, and bundles its HR Core software with several products. It publishes separate prices for Contractor Management and Contractor Management Plus, so you can see exactly what the extra compliance coverage costs.

What each service costs at published prices

Deel's EOR is $100 cheaper per employee each month. Remote is $20 cheaper per contractor, and is the only one of the two that publishes a payroll price at all.

Check the date on older comparisons. Remote's monthly pricing page lists EOR at $699. Articles quoting $599 for Remote are usually citing an earlier price or an annual-billing offer.

Five EOR employees

Five EOR employees cost $2,995 a month in provider fees with Deel and $3,495 with Remote — $35,940 against $41,940 a year. At ten employees the gap reaches $1,000 a month.

Monthly fee per employee$599$699
Monthly service fees$2,995$3,495
Annual service fees$35,940$41,940
Annual difference—+$6,000

Provider fees are the smallest part of an EOR bill. Salary, employer social security, pension, mandatory insurance and benefits, statutory bonuses, any deposit, and severance on exit all sit on top — and they vary far more by country than the fee does. An engineer in Germany and one in India will not cost the same on identical provider fees, so compare country quotes rather than list prices.

Twenty contractors

For 20 contractors, Deel's $49 starting price produces a $980 monthly subscription against $580 at Remote's $29. That is $400 a month, or $4,800 a year.

Remote's $29 plan is administration only. Its $99 Plus tier adds localized agreements and indemnity of up to $100,000 per contractor for applicable penalties, subject to its terms. If classification risk is why you are buying, compare Plus against Deel's contractor services rather than setting the two cheapest plans side by side.

Contractor of Record

Both list $325 per contractor per month, so five contractors cost $19,500 a year with either. The terms behind the identical price can still differ. Ask who signs the contractor agreement, who makes the payments, which indemnities apply, whether a deposit is required, how intellectual property transfers, which countries are eligible, and what happens when the engagement ends.

Global Payroll

At Remote's $29, 100 employees across five entities start at $2,900 a month — $34,800 a year, before implementation fees, which Remote says can apply. Deel quotes payroll individually, so there is no published figure to set against it. Ask both for the implementation fee, the recurring fee per country, and whether payroll is self-managed or fully managed in each one.

Published starting service fees only. Excludes salaries, employer contributions, benefits, deposits, implementation and termination costs — all of which are larger than the fee and vary by country. Deel Global Payroll is quote-only, so payroll employees are costed against Remote's published $29only and Deel's column leaves them out.

EOR coverage against entity ownership

An EOR becomes the legal employer while you direct the work. Both handle the local contract, onboarding, payroll and tax deductions, benefits and ongoing HR support. The real difference is whose entity signs the employment contract.

Deel employs through its own entities in some countries and through local partners in others. Remote says every entity it employs through is its own. With 130+ EOR countries against 90+, Deel will more often have an option where you want to hire; Remote will more often employ through an entity it controls directly.

Country counts blend products. A country can support contractor payments but not EOR, payroll only where you already have an entity, or EOR only through a partner. Immigration coverage is listed separately again.

Ask this before signing: which legal entity will employ my worker in this country, and does the provider own it? Request the entity name and the employment agreement for each country you are hiring in.

Global Payroll for companies with their own entities

Payroll is for people you already employ through your own subsidiary — a different job from the HR platforms most domestic teams start on. A company with entities in India, the UK and Germany would use it to run all three payrolls from one place without handing legal employment to an EOR.

Deel claims payroll in 130+ countries, mixing in-house operations with local workflows, and offers both self-managed and fully managed options. It can pull in data from payroll providers you already use, and lists integrations with Workday, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, BambooHR, HiBob, Okta and Azure AD. Remote claims in-house processing in 70+ countries, publishes the $29 starting price, and bundles HR Core.

Contractor Management is not Contractor of Record

Contractor Management is software for agreements, tax forms, invoices and international payments. You remain responsible for deciding whether each person genuinely qualifies as a contractor.

With Contractor of Record, the provider signs the agreement and accepts defined compliance and administration duties. That reduces some risk but does not rule out a misclassification claim — the country, the working relationship and the indemnity terms still decide the outcome.

Deel's Contractor Management starts at $49 and pays out in 120+ currencies. Remote's starts at $29, with Plus at $99 and Contractor of Record at $325. A cheap subscription is not a substitute for legal advice on classification. If neither tier fits, our other head-to-head comparisons cover the wider payroll and HR field.

Who carries the compliance risk

Every country sets its own rules on minimum wage, hours, leave, public holidays, social security, pensions, tax withholding, mandatory insurance, notice, severance, termination procedure and data protection. Both providers sell help with all of it. Neither removes the need to read your contract.

Deel's mix of owned entities and partners means the employment structure can change from one country to the next. Remote's owned entities give a more consistent setup, though local contracts, benefits and processes still need checking country by country.

Onboarding, payroll reliability and support

Whether salaries arrive on time, and how quickly errors get fixed, matters more than the dashboard. Get answers on these before you sign:

MeasureWhy it matters
EOR onboarding timeWhen the employee can legally start
Payroll cut-off datesAvoids missed salary cycles
Correction processHow payroll errors get resolved
Support hoursPayroll problems do not wait
Named account ownerComplex cases need one person
Escalation routeStops tickets stalling
Local expertiseCountry-specific employment questions

Remote publishes an average onboarding time of 2.3 days against a 30-day standard, based on its own internal data — a claim worth weighing against the current Deel offer rather than against a review score. It is not an SLA. Deel does not publish an equivalent figure, so ask both for timelines in your target countries.

On G2, Deel's listing showed about 4.7/5 from more than 7,000 reviews and Remote's about 4.5/5 from several thousand. Many of those reviews cover contractor payments or HR software rather than EOR, so a 0.2-point gap tells you little. Read reviews for the service you actually plan to buy — one unresolved payroll error will matter more than either score.

Five hiring situations, and what we would shortlist

The right answer changes with the shape of your team, not with the headline price. Five common situations, and which provider we would put first in each:

A US startup hiring one engineer in Germany

No German subsidiary, one employee. Both offer EOR there, so the headline country counts are irrelevant — only the German proposal matters.

What to compare
  • The exact German employing entity, and who owns it
  • Gross salary and employer contributions
  • Health insurance and pension arrangements
  • Notice and termination obligations
Our read. Shortlist Deel first on price and coverage; Remote if its direct-entity model is the priority. Get both German quotes before deciding — $100 a month is less than the contract terms are worth.

Our recommendation

Start with Deel if you are hiring employees and contractors across many countries and want EOR, payroll, Contractor of Record and immigration from one provider.

Start with Remote if most of your people are contractors, if you want a published payroll price to budget against, or if employment through a provider-owned entity matters to you. If neither convinces you, there are other EOR and payroll platforms worth shortlisting.

Choose Deel if
  • You need EOR in countries Remote does not list.
  • You employ staff and contractors and want both on one contract.
  • Immigration or mobility support is part of the plan.
  • You are expanding into several countries this year.

Lower EOR fee, wider coverage. Confirm whether each country uses a Deel entity or a partner.

Frequently asked questions

Can a small startup use Deel or Remote?
Yes. Both take customers hiring one or two international people. Ask about minimum contract terms and deposits, which affect a small company far more than the monthly fee does.
Which is cheaper, Deel or Remote?
It depends on what you are buying. Deel is $100 cheaper per EOR employee per month ($599 against $699). Remote is $20 cheaper per contractor ($29 against $49) and publishes a $29 payroll price where Deel quotes individually. A contractor-heavy team usually pays less with Remote; an employee-heavy team usually pays less with Deel.
Does Deel or Remote charge a deposit for EOR employees?
Both may, depending on the country and the contract. A deposit is often equivalent to a month of salary or a severance accrual. Ask for the deposit amount per country in writing before signing — it is one of the larger unbudgeted costs in an EOR deal.
Can I convert a contractor to an EOR employee on the same platform?
Both support conversion, which is a common reason buyers pick one of these two. Confirm what happens to the contractor's start date, accrued entitlements and any IP assignment at the point of conversion, since those are decided by local law rather than the platform.
Is Contractor of Record always safer than Contractor Management?
No. Contractor of Record moves defined duties and some liability to the provider, but it does not make a misclassified relationship compliant. If a person works like an employee, the country's test — not the contract — decides. Read the indemnity limits and exclusions before treating it as cover.
How we researched this

Every price comes from deel.com/pricing and remote.com/pricing on 1 November 2026, in USD at monthly billing. Country counts, onboarding times and entity-ownership claims are the providers' own published statements, labelled as such throughout. Review scores are G2 snapshots on the same date. All cost examples multiply published starting prices and exclude salaries, employer contributions, benefits, deposits, implementation and termination costs.

We have not run payroll on either platform. This is about published terms and what to ask before you sign, not a review of day-to-day operations.
