About NocoDB

NocoDB turns a database you already have — MySQL, Postgres or SQLite — into a smart spreadsheet with grid, gallery, kanban and form views layered on top. Instead of importing your data into a new proprietary store, it works with what you've got.

It's API-first with REST and GraphQL endpoints, plus automations and webhooks, and it's open source under AGPL-3.0 with a generous self-hosted tier — which is a large part of why it's become the most widely adopted open Airtable alternative.

What makes it different

Works on your own database

Point NocoDB at an existing MySQL, Postgres or SQLite database instead of migrating your data.

Multiple views

Grid, gallery, kanban and form views all sit on top of the same underlying tables.

REST & GraphQL APIs

Every base is automatically exposed through both REST and GraphQL endpoints.

Self-hostable

Run NocoDB on your own infrastructure with a generous free, self-hosted tier.

The honest read

What we like
  • Connects to a real database you already own
  • Generous free self-hosted tier
  • Fast-moving, active development
  • Strong API-first design (REST + GraphQL)
  • Automations and webhooks built in
Worth knowing
  • UI can feel less polished than Airtable in places
  • Some advanced Airtable features (deep revision history) are still catching up
  • Larger self-hosted setups need real database ops knowledge
  • Some enterprise features are paywalled

Quick answers

Is NocoDB free to use?

Yes — NocoDB is free and open source under AGPL-3.0, with a generous self-hosted tier. A paid cloud plan is also available.

Do I need to migrate my data to use NocoDB?

No — NocoDB connects directly to an existing MySQL, Postgres or SQLite database instead of requiring a data migration.

Does NocoDB have an API?

Yes — every base automatically gets REST and GraphQL API endpoints.

How is NocoDB different from Airtable?

NocoDB is open source, self-hostable and works on top of a real SQL database, while Airtable is a closed-source, cloud-only product with its own proprietary storage.
