About Automatisch

Automatisch is deliberately the simplest tool in the self-hosted automation space: pick a trigger app, pick an action app, connect your accounts, done. If Zapier's mental model works for you but its pricing and data residency don't, this is the closest like-for-like swap you can run yourself.

That simplicity is a feature for European businesses in particular — hosting Automatisch on your own servers means customer data never leaves your infrastructure, which makes GDPR conversations with legal teams dramatically shorter.

It won't match n8n's node depth or Windmill's code power, and its integration list is smaller than both. But for the everyday 'when X happens in app A, do Y in app B' automations that make up most business workflows, Automatisch handles them with the least learning curve of any self-hosted option.

What makes it different

Trigger → action flows

The classic Zapier model: pick a trigger, chain actions, switch it on. No code anywhere.

GDPR-friendly by design

Self-hosted means customer data stays on your servers — no third-party processor to disclose.

Growing connector library

Slack, Stripe, Twilio, GitHub, OpenAI and dozens more, with new connectors added by the community.

5-minute Docker setup

A single docker-compose file brings up the app, worker and database.

How to install Automatisch

A hands-on walkthrough of getting Automatisch up and running — follow along and you'll have it self-hosted in one sitting.

The honest read

What we like
  • Easiest self-hosted automation tool to learn
  • True like-for-like Zapier workflow model
  • Data sovereignty — ideal for GDPR compliance
  • Clean, uncluttered interface
  • Free and open source (AGPL-3.0)
Worth knowing
  • Far fewer integrations than Zapier or n8n
  • No advanced branching or code steps
  • Slower release cadence than category leaders
  • Cloud offering is still maturing

Quick answers

Is Automatisch free?

Yes — the open-source AGPL-3.0 edition is free to self-host with no workflow limits. A paid cloud and enterprise features fund development.

How does Automatisch compare to n8n?

Automatisch is simpler: linear trigger-to-action flows like Zapier, with a smaller integration library. n8n offers far more nodes, branching and code — at the cost of a steeper learning curve and a fair-code (not open-source) license.

Is Automatisch GDPR compliant?

Self-hosting makes compliance much easier: your automation data never leaves servers you control, so there's no external data processor involved. Compliance ultimately depends on your own setup and processes.

Can I run Automatisch with Docker?

Yes — the official docker-compose file (app, worker, Postgres, Redis) is the recommended installation and takes a few minutes.
